[Oxford Grammar Day] Grammar Dictation

is the author of several books on alternative methods to teaching grammar, and won the English Speaking Union¡¯s Duke of Edinburgh Book Competition in 1999 for her grammar series The Grammar Lab.

has done significant classroom research into the grammar dictation method known as "Dictogloss."  Mr. Cherry is closely associated with Dictogloss innovator and author of Grammar Dictation, Dr Ruth Wajnryb.

 

Grammar Dictation or ¡®dictogloss¡¯ involves the dictation of a text at normal speed, followed by text creation or reconstruction by students, and error analysis. All of these combined enable students to improve their understanding and use of English grammar.

This presentation will look at grammar theory for younger students, and then explore related practical teaching activities for experienced grammar teachers.

 2nd Session [11:00~12:00]

Grammar dictation involves dictation, small-group text reconstruction and analysis, enabling self/peer-correction and deductive awareness of language. This presentation will introduce the theory, aims and practice of this method.

 3rd Session [13:00~14:00]

This presentation will present practical teaching ideas and activities for more effective grammar classes.

 4th Session [14:00~15:00]

This session is meant as a guide of practical activities, featuring a variety of grammar activities to stimulate students at the same time as increasing their fluency and honing accuracy.

 5th Session [15:00~16:00]

  Elaine Cross

Have you ever felt confused when looking at all of the grammar textbooks available? This session will introduce Oxford's grammar series, including key features and how they can be linked together to produce a complete grammar syllabus.
